Bike and Ride

ROTA has a great way to keep you and the environment in shape, Bike and Ride.

With a bike rack on every bus, you can make bike riding part of your regular commute.

Loading and unloading bikes on the rack is easy and your bike rides free.

The bike racks have simple instructions posted right on them. Bikes in the rack do not touch other bikes, the bus, or other vehicles. Each bike is held in place by a spring-loaded clamp.

The rack, attached to the front of the bus holds two bicycles. Each bike can be loaded and removed independently. You do not need to move one bike to reach the other, and the rack holds most wheel and frame sizes, including children bikes.

Loading Your Bicycle

1. As the bus approaches, have your bike ready to load. Remove water bottles, pumps, or any loose items that might fall off. Tell the driver you are loading your bike. For safety reasons, the driver cannot get off the bus to help you, but he or she can give you instructions.

2. Always load and unload your bicycles from the curbside.

3. Pull down to release the folded bike rack. You only need one hand to pull the rack down, so you can hold your bike with your other hand.

4. Lift your bike onto the rack, fitting wheels into the slots. Each slot is labeled for front and rear wheels. Please load your bike in the outside slot first.

5. Raise and release the support arm over the top of the front tire. Make sure the support arm is resting on the tire and not on the fender or frame.

Unloading Your Bike

1. Tell the driver you need to unload your bike before you approach your stop.

2. Raise the support arm off the tire. Move the support arm down, out of your way.

3. Lift your bike out of the rack.

4. Fold up the bike rack if there is no other bike in the rack.

Bike and Ride Tips!

1. Bike racks are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

2. The bike rack holds two bicycles. If the rack is full, you need to wait for the next bus.

3. You may load or unload your bike anytime.

4. Bicyclists must be 16 years of age to use the bike rack.

5. Bicyclists under 16 years of age are allowed with an adult. The adult must load the bicycle.

6. If there are two bicycles loading at the same time, please place the bicycle unloading first on the front bike rack.

7. Bikes with oversized child carrier seats may not be able to be accommodated.

8. For your own safety, and before mounting your bike and riding away, please remain on the sidewalk until the bus has pulled away.

9. Please familiarize yourself with the California bicycle rules and regulations.
